The Bible moment
Judges 13:1–25 describes Israel living under oppression by the Philistines. Manoah’s wife had been childless, but the angel of the LORD announced that she would have a son. Instructions were given concerning the child’s consecration, setting him apart to God from the womb. The child was to be connected with Israel’s deliverance from the Philistines. Samson was born, the LORD blessed him, and the Spirit of the LORD began to stir him. This beginning shows a divinely announced calling, but it does not mean that all of Samson’s later choices were good or automatically approved. The passage names his mother but does not give her personal name.

- What did the angel tell Manoah’s family about Samson?
- Why should a calling from God not make us excuse wrong choices?

Use this page
Use this page to introduce Samson’s birth announcement before studying the rest of Judges 13–16. For older children, discuss calling, dependence on God, and responsible choices. Avoid presenting Samson as a perfect hero, treating his hair as magic, or celebrating later revenge and violence. Keep the focus on the biblical account and its solemn consequences.
