Matthew 17:1–13 tells how Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a high mountain. There, Jesus’ face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light. Moses and Elijah appeared and spoke with him. A bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice identified Jesus as God’s beloved Son and commanded the disciples to listen to him. The disciples fell facedown in fear, but Jesus touched them and told them not to be afraid. As they came down the mountain, Jesus told them not to tell anyone about the vision until the Son of Man had been raised from the dead.
