New Testament · Luke 2:1-20
During a registration ordered by Caesar Augustus, Joseph travels from Nazareth in Galilee to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s town, with Mary, who is pledged to him and pregnant. Mary gives birth to her firstborn son, wraps him in cloths, and lays him in a manger because there is no available guest space. An angel announces the birth of the Savior, Christ the Lord, to shepherds living in the fields and guarding their flock at night. A multitude of the heavenly host praises God. The shepherds go to Bethlehem, find Mary, Joseph, and Jesus, report what they were told, and return glorifying and praising God. Mary treasures and reflects on these events.
