New Testament · Acts 27:1-44

Paul Survives a Shipwreck

Paul sails toward Rome under the guard of Julius the centurion. After difficult travel, a violent storm drives the ship off course, and everyone aboard loses hope. Paul says an angel of the God he worships told him that he must stand before Caesar and that God has granted the lives of everyone sailing with him, though the ship will be lost and cast upon an island. Paul encourages everyone to eat and gives thanks to God. The ship strikes a place with two seas and begins to break up, but Julius prevents the soldiers from killing the prisoners and orders everyone to reach land. All 276 people aboard survive, some by swimming and others on pieces of the ship.
