The Bible Story

Saul Meets Jesus on the Road

Acts 9:17–19 tells how Ananias went to the house where Saul was staying and laid his hands on him. Ananias said that Jesus had sent him so Saul could regain his sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. Saul was baptized, ate food, and regained his strength. This moment came after Saul had met Jesus on the road to Damascus, entered the city unable to see, and spent three days without eating or drinking. The passage presents Ananias’s obedience and Saul’s changed direction without giving a medical explanation for the scales. It also connects sight, the Holy Spirit, baptism, food, and renewed strength in Saul’s experience. The scene belongs in a house in Damascus, not in an invented setting, and Jesus should not be shown physically.

What children can notice

Inside the house in Damascus, Ananias gently lays hands on Saul. Small, non-graphic shapes like scales fall away from Saul’s closed eyes as he begins to see again. A nearby bowl of food can represent Saul eating and regaining strength, while the composition may include visual cues of baptism without adding an unrecorded setting or ceremony detail.
