The Path Opens

Exodus 14:1-31

The Big Idea

When God’s people faced danger, the LORD made a way for Israel. We can trust the LORD’s power and care, even when the way forward is not yet visible.

The Bible Story

Crossing the Red Sea

Exodus 14:15–18 records the LORD telling Moses to lift up his staff and stretch out his hand over the Red Sea. The LORD will divide the waters so the Israelites can go through on dry ground. The passage presents the miracle as the LORD’s work, not Moses’ independent power. The opening path also displays the LORD’s glory over Pharaoh and the pursuing Egyptian forces. Earlier, Pharaoh’s army had chased Israel to the sea, and the people were afraid. Moses told them to stand firm and see the LORD’s salvation. This moment begins the safe way forward that the LORD provides for Israel.
