The Bible Story

Daniel in the Lions’ Den

Daniel 6:19–23 describes what happened after Daniel was placed in the lions’ den and the entrance was sealed with a stone and the king’s signet ring. At daybreak, King Darius hurried to the den and called out to Daniel. Daniel answered that God had sent an angel and shut the lions’ mouths, so they had not hurt him. Daniel was brought out, and no injury was found on him because he trusted in his God. The passage presents Daniel’s safety as God’s protection, not as Daniel’s own strength. It also shows Darius’s relief when he discovered that Daniel was alive. The angel should be represented only in the simple way supported by the passage, without adding an appearance or actions beyond shutting the lions’ mouths.
