The Bible Story

The First Passover

In Egypt, Moses told Israel’s elders to prepare the Passover animals and mark their doorways with blood, using hyssop on the lintel and two doorposts. The families were to remain inside until morning. Moses explained that the LORD would pass over the marked doors and protect those homes. The people bowed down and worshiped, then did what the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron. These instructions were part of the Passover established for Israel. The families also prepared a meal that included roasted meat, unleavened bread, and bitter herbs, while being ready to leave. The marked doorway was the sign connected with the LORD’s rescue of the Israelite households. This passage describes careful obedience, worship, and trust in the LORD’s instructions during a serious night in Egypt.
