Bible moment
The Bible moment
Luke 22:49–51 records that Jesus’ companions asked whether they should strike. One of them struck the high priest’s servant and cut off his right ear. Jesus stopped the violence and healed the servant. Luke does not name the disciple who struck him or the servant. This moment appears during Jesus’ arrest, after Judas approached with a crowd and identified Jesus with a kiss. Jesus did not respond to the danger by encouraging further fighting. Instead, he showed healing mercy. The passage presents Jesus as courageous and self-controlled while others were acting violently. The account should be told with non-graphic language and without adding details from other Gospel accounts.
