The Big Idea

Jesus cared for the man patiently, and his sight was restored. God’s care is not limited by a difficult beginning.

The Bible Story

Jesus Heals a Blind Man at Bethsaida

Mark 8:22–26 tells how people brought a blind man to Jesus at Bethsaida and asked Him to touch him. Jesus led the man outside the village, placed saliva on his eyes, laid His hands on him, and asked whether he saw anything. The man looked up and said that he saw people, but they looked like trees walking around. Jesus laid His hands on the man’s eyes again. The man looked intently, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. Jesus then sent him home and told him not to enter the village. The passage presents the healing in two stages. It does not explain why Jesus led him outside or identify the people who brought him. The man’s blindness is not presented as a fault or punishment.
