The Bible Story

Jesus Feeds Five Thousand

Mark 6:30–34 tells how the disciples returned to Jesus and reported what they had done and taught. Jesus invited them to go with him to a solitary place and rest, so they left by boat. Many people saw them going and arrived ahead of them on foot from the towns. When Jesus saw the large crowd, he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. He began teaching them many things. This scene introduces the account of Jesus feeding about five thousand men. The story also shows Jesus’ care for people who needed guidance and attention. Mark’s account continues with an ordinary need for food, Jesus’ instruction to the disciples, and God’s abundant provision through five loaves and two fish.
