The Bible Story

Jesus Feeds Five Thousand

Mark 6:30–44 tells how the disciples returned to Jesus and went with him to a solitary place. Many people arrived ahead of them, and Jesus taught the crowd with compassion. As it grew late, the disciples suggested sending the people away to buy food. Jesus told them to feed the crowd and asked them to find out what they had. They found five loaves and two fish. Jesus later had the people sit in groups on the green grass, gave thanks while looking toward heaven, broke the loaves, and gave the food to the disciples to set before the people. Everyone ate and was satisfied, and twelve basketfuls remained. Mark says about five thousand men ate the loaves.
