The Bible Story

Jesus Raises Jairus’s Daughter

Mark 5:21 begins the account of Jesus returning to the lakeshore, where a large crowd gathers around him. Mark identifies the crossing and the crowd but does not give details about the boat or the journey. This moment leads into an urgent request from Jairus, a synagogue leader, whose twelve-year-old daughter is near death. Jesus goes with Jairus while the crowd follows. Along the way, a woman with a twelve-year illness touches Jesus’ clothing and is healed. Later, Jesus goes to Jairus’s house, takes the child by the hand, and tells her to get up. She rises and walks. Mark’s account shows Jesus’ compassion toward urgent human need, his life-giving authority, and care for a child’s ordinary needs.
