The Bible Story

Jesus Heals a Paralyzed Man

Mark 2:1-12 tells how Jesus returned to Capernaum and many people gathered at the house. Four people brought a paralyzed man to Jesus, but the crowd blocked the way. They opened the roof above Jesus and lowered the man down on his mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he first told the man that his sins were forgiven. Some scribes questioned this in their hearts, thinking that only God could forgive sins. Jesus knew what they were thinking. He explained that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins, then commanded the man to get up, take his mat, and go home. The man immediately stood, took his mat, and walked out where everyone could see. The crowd was amazed, praised God, and said they had never seen anything like it. The passage presents the man as a valued person receiving determined help, not as someone whose disability made him lesser or was caused by sin.

Use this page

Use this page to introduce Mark 2:1-12 before reading the passage or discussing friendship and faith. Invite children to notice the sequence: the friends bring the man, Jesus speaks forgiveness, and then Jesus commands him to rise. Emphasize dignity, kindness, and praise to God without suggesting that disability reflects personal failure or that healing determines anyone’s worth.
