Bible moment
The Bible moment
Acts 2:1-4 describes Pentecost, when the apostles and other believers are together in one place. A sound like a rushing mighty wind fills the house. Divided tongues resembling fire appear and rest on each believer. They are filled with the Holy Spirit and begin speaking in other languages as the Spirit enables them. The passage uses “like” and “resembling,” so the wind and fire-like signs should not be presented as destructive wind or literal flames. This moment begins a larger event in which people from many nations hear the believers declaring God’s mighty works. Peter later explains that Jesus has been raised and made Lord and Messiah by God. About three thousand receive Peter’s word and are baptized that day.
