The Bible moment
Luke 24:13-35 tells about two disciples traveling from Jerusalem to Emmaus on the same day as the events they were discussing. Jesus joins them, but they do not recognize him. They tell him about Jesus of Nazareth, his crucifixion, their hope that he would redeem Israel, and reports that the tomb was empty and angels had appeared. Jesus explains from Moses and all the Prophets what the Scriptures say about the Messiah’s suffering and glory. Near Emmaus, the disciples ask him to stay because evening is near. He takes bread, blesses it, breaks it, and gives it to them. Their eyes are opened, and they recognize him. Then he disappears from their sight. Luke does not explain how this happens. The disciples remember how their hearts burned while Jesus spoke and opened the Scriptures.
