The Bible Story

Lot Is Rescued

Genesis 19:4–11 describes men from Sodom surrounding Lot’s house and demanding access to the two angels who are staying with him. Lot pleads with them, but they threaten him. The angels pull Lot inside, strike the men with blindness, and secure the door. This moment shows the angels protecting Lot from immediate danger. It belongs within the larger account in Genesis 18:16–19:29, where the LORD announces judgment on Sodom and Gomorrah, Abraham asks about mercy and fairness, and the angels later warn Lot to leave. The passage presents both God’s justice and God’s mercy. At this point in the story, the focus is the angels’ protection of Lot inside his house; do not add weapons, injuries, deaths, or graphic descriptions of the men’s intended violence.
