The Bible Story

Jesus Turns Water into Wine

John 2:9-10 describes what happened after Jesus told the servants to draw from the water jars and take some to the master of the feast. The master tasted the wine without knowing where it came from; the servants knew. He then called the bridegroom and explained that people usually serve the good wine first, but the good wine had been kept until now. This moment belongs to Jesus’ first sign at Cana in Galilee. The sign revealed Jesus’ glory, and his disciples believed in him. The passage does not identify the couple, give the bridegroom’s response, or say that he knew about the sign. It also does not describe the transformation process or encourage drinking. The focus is on Jesus’ care in a real human need, his power, and the unexpected excellence of what he provided.
