The Bible Story

Jesus Turns Water into Wine

John 2:8-9 describes part of Jesus’ first sign at a wedding in Cana of Galilee. After Jesus told the servants to fill six stone water jars, he told them to draw some out and take it to the master of the feast. The master tasted what had resulted without knowing where it came from; the servants knew. The passage does not describe the transformation process or when it occurred. It also does not say that Jesus drank the wine or that the sign was performed publicly before all the guests. This moment belongs within the larger account in which Jesus’ glory was revealed and his disciples believed in him.
