The Bible Story

The Wise Men Visit Jesus

Matthew 2:3–6 tells how Herod the king and Jerusalem were troubled when Magi from the east asked about the child born king of the Jews. Herod gathered the chief priests and scribes and asked where the Christ would be born. They answered that Bethlehem in Judea was the place foretold by the prophet. This scene identifies Bethlehem as the promised birthplace of the Christ. The account names Herod, the chief priests and scribes, Jerusalem, and Bethlehem in Judea. It does not explain every detail of the prophecy or add events beyond this answer. Keep this moment distinct from the later parts of the visit, including the Magi’s journey to Jesus and their worship.
