The Bible Story

The Baby Moses

Exodus 1:8–14 says that a new king of Egypt, who did not know Joseph, became afraid of the Israelites. He forced them into hard labor and made them build store cities, including Pithom and Raamses. The passage presents this work as harsh and unfair. The king’s fear led to the command for forced labor; no additional motive should be added. This scene belongs to the larger account of Moses’s early life in Exodus 1:8–2:10, but this page focuses only on the workers and the store-city construction. The passage later describes other dangerous commands, but they are not part of this illustration.
