The Bible Story

Moses and the Burning Bush

In Exodus 4:10–12, Moses tells the LORD that he has never been eloquent and is slow of speech and tongue. He is responding to God’s call to go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt. The LORD answers that he made the human mouth and understands how people speak. God promises to be with Moses’ mouth and to teach him what to say. This passage presents Moses’ concern honestly, without diagnosing it or explaining it as a specific condition. The LORD does not dismiss Moses’ worry. Instead, God promises help and instruction. The burning bush remains an important setting because God is speaking to Moses there. The focus is on God’s knowledge, presence, and provision as Moses faces a difficult calling.
