The Bible moment
Judges 7:16–22 tells how Gideon divided the 300 men into three companies and brought them near the Midianite camp at night. Each man carried a trumpet, an empty jar, and a torch inside the jar. At Gideon’s direction, they blew the trumpets, smashed the jars, and revealed the torches. They cried out, and the LORD caused confusion in the Midianite camp. The Midianite army fled and turned against itself. This followed God’s reduction of Israel’s force from 32,000 to 300 men, so Israel could not claim the victory for itself. The passage says Gideon formed three companies, but it does not say that each company had 100 men. The scene should focus on light, sound, surprise, and God’s deliverance, without adding swords, invented battle tactics, or graphic violence.

Use this page to discuss courage, obedience, teamwork, and trusting God. Invite children to notice how the story emphasizes God’s power rather than the size of Israel’s army. For a classroom or church activity, children might draw jars, torches, and trumpets or retell the scene using light and sound. Keep the focus on the passage and avoid presenting Gideon’s fleece as a required practice for everyone.
