The Bible moment
Mark 6:30–44 tells how the disciples returned and reported to Jesus. Jesus led them to a solitary place, but many people arrived ahead of them. Jesus had compassion on the crowd, taught them, and then told the disciples to give them food. They found five loaves and two fish. Jesus had everyone sit in groups on the green grass, in hundreds and fifties. He took the loaves and fish, looked toward heaven, gave thanks, broke the loaves, and gave the food to the disciples to set before the people. Everyone ate and was satisfied. The disciples collected twelve basketfuls of broken pieces and fish. Mark says about five thousand men ate the loaves.
