The Bible moment
John 13:18–20 comes after Jesus washes the disciples’ feet and teaches them about humble service. Jesus is their Teacher and Lord, yet he gives them an example of serving others. He tells them that Scripture will be fulfilled and that he is speaking beforehand so they may believe when it happens. Jesus also teaches that receiving one whom he sends is receiving him, and receiving him is receiving the One who sent him. This passage ends there, without naming the betrayer or describing later events.
