Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

Matthew 26:36–46 tells how Jesus came with his disciples to Gethsemane and asked them to sit while he went to pray. He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with him. Jesus became sorrowful and troubled, then asked them to remain and watch with him. He went farther and prayed to his Father about the cup, submitting to the Father’s will. Jesus returned and found the disciples sleeping. He urged them to watch and pray, explaining that the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. He prayed two more times, while the disciples again slept because their eyes were heavy. Jesus then told them to sleep and rest no longer, because the hour was near and his betrayer was approaching. He told them to rise and go.
