The Bible Story

Stephen’s Faithful Witness

Acts 7:1–50 records Stephen’s answer when the high priest asks whether the accusations against him are true. Stephen tells how God guided Abraham, Joseph, Moses, and Israel through the wilderness, and how God’s purposes continued through David and Solomon. He explains that Solomon built a house, yet the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands. Stephen’s summary shows God’s presence and purposes across Israel’s history. It also recalls that people sometimes resisted Moses and rejected God’s messengers. The symbols should support Stephen’s speech rather than make every historical moment appear present at once. This passage is part of Stephen’s faithful witness before the council, and his words prepare for his accusation that his hearers resist the Holy Spirit and have betrayed the Righteous One.
