Old Testament · Exodus 1:8–2:10

The Baby Moses

Moses is born during a time when Pharaoh has ordered Hebrew baby boys to be thrown into the Nile. His mother hides him for three months, then places him in a basket among the reeds. Pharaoh’s daughter finds him, recognizes him as a Hebrew child, and takes him as her son. Moses’s sister arranges for his mother to nurse him, and Pharaoh’s daughter names him Moses because she drew him out of the water.
