The Bible Story

Crossing the Red Sea

Exodus 14:30–31 records that the LORD saved Israel from the Egyptians. After the sea returned to its normal place, Israel saw the Egyptians on the seashore. The passage states this outcome briefly and without describing it graphically. Seeing that they had been rescued, the Israelites feared the LORD and trusted the LORD and Moses, his servant. This response follows the danger at the sea, Moses’ instruction to stand firm and see the LORD’s salvation, and Israel’s safe crossing on dry ground. The rescue is attributed to the LORD, while Moses serves as the leader through whom the LORD gives instructions. The account emphasizes the LORD’s power, protection, and deliverance of Israel from the pursuing Egyptians.
