The Bible Story

The First Passover

Exodus 12:1-32 describes the first Passover. The LORD instructed Moses and Aaron to tell Israelite households how to prepare a lamb or young goat, mark their doorways, and eat a meal with unleavened bread and bitter herbs while ready to depart. The marked homes were spared when the LORD struck Egypt’s firstborn. After this judgment, Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron during the night. He ordered the Israelites to leave Egypt, worship the LORD, and take their flocks and herds. He also asked for a blessing. This scene ends with Pharaoh’s command; it does not show the Israelites traveling or crossing the Red Sea.
